So you’re curious about what, exactly, this YogaDance stuff is all about, hmm? Well, if you haven’t already found it on your own, you might check out a little blurb I’ve got here. But that’s just a basic intro, so here’s a bit more food for thought…
YogaDance is meditation in motion… as a yoga dancer friend of mine says: when the body moves, so does the spirit ~ it cannot help itself! YogaDance helps to make that connection a mindful, deliberate one.
YogaDance speaks to the entire spectrum of the human spirit and experience: a gentle awakening, exuberant joy, wild energies, even peaceful stillness. YogaDance is a healing and energizing practice that gives back to the mind, body, and spirit.
YogaDance awakens your senses and reminds you of what it means to be fully alive in this world, fully present in this moment, and most fully your own authentic self. To get out of your head and into your body ~ to let your yoga dance ~ this practice offers both the space and support to turn off the influences of the outside world and let yourself BE.
And most importantly (for me), YogaDance is a really, really good time. You come as you are, you’re surrounded by fabulous people, you’ve got great tunes playing, and you get to MOVE. You don’t need to be a hard-core yogi. You don’t need to be a trained dancer. All you need is your body ~ whatever it looks like, whatever it may or may not be able to do, whatever attributes you ascribe to it. Whether you want to think of it as the endorphins that are released during the physical activity, or else the spiritual healing that occurs during the movement through the chakras, the take-away is the same: YogaDance is a movement practice that makes you feel good. And what’s not to like about that?
